Full Version: A State Of Trance Episode 347 (10-04-08)
10x Armin
I listened very carefully to the show tonight, because I had to come to terms with myself how I feel about the show
nowadays and whether do I still even like it.
Well it didn't start promising, the first few tunes sounded like singalong to me, and I have a feeling that this block
is used to lure new crowd with this pseudo pop house/electro tunes that I can't stand.
Not even the Nadia Ali tune could do it for me and I love her and neither did Oceanlab remix work.
It wasn't til 7th tune (almost 1h) that we finally hear the sort of sound Armin used to open with, the Elevation remix
was perfect and it should've been the show opener.
Then come the Alex M.O.R.P.H. and Armin's TOTW which although isn't terrible certainly isn't TOTW for me,
and I can't even see it having any business on the dancefloor except maybe to close the show because it comes
to a dead stop, it's sorta like Ballerina from year's back, either love it or hate it. I prefer the latter.
Skip to 10th song, Breakfast, it was the worst noise that I heard in a long time, it seemed to pick up with
an interesting breakdown, but it was just awful.
And then the 2nd hour and 180 degree turn, the real ASOT! pure bliss starting with Nitrous Oxide remix of RN tune,
Andy Blueman perfect to follow with and it's a massive tune even in remix, don't know which is better,
him or Daniel Kandi, in my opinion these 2 tunes should be tunes #2, 3 in the beginning of the show.
Followed by again great remix of La Guitara, I mean let's face it, the tune is brilliant so even a remix can't go wrong.
There's less of the famous guitar but it's miles away from 1st hour.
Dreas & Simon Patterson tunes to follow were great, instrumental and full of build ups & breakdowns again,
amazing stuff, I mean I may be illiterate when it comes to musical keys, but I definetly know what I like to hear
and this is it, but the best is yet to come, it started with Marco V's remix and great tune by Nic Chagall, but the
TOTW for me was definetly 17. Totel - Afterglow (R.E.N.O.I.S.E. Remix) WOW what an amazing tune and the journey
it takes you on with it's driving sound, I was out of my chair! Brilliant!!! That Alex Morph can't even compare,
this is trance!
Last couple of tunes slowed it down a bit but with just 1 vocal tune to finish the hour it's a perfect use of vocal,
unintrusive and less and I stress less, 1 out of 10 is just fine, great hour which I will definetly rip out of the show

you know your speech is fine and all but yes things change such as trends especially in music,
if your purist that's great but don't go around knockin' other peoples taste in music, and if formats change i would think it would be natrual for it too, things don't always remain the same,
in order to stay connected specially in music u must change as well as w/ his or anyones fans,
im not saying to change completely bc dj will always have their roots, but you can't expect for music to remain the same
listen at your own will and don't be so judemental about what armin decides to play..
i for one dislike ceratin dj'd but they produce really great tracks but that doesn't stop me from listening,
music is beautiful in all it's forms, weather its, trance, progg, house, funky, minimal, tech, such..
if i dont like something i wont listen and thats that..but im not gonna sit there and whine
and writte a full report about why im no longer a fan or choose not to listen..
there wil always be trends and w/ those trends music too will change..

Because I know what I like I'm a purist ? Yes ok, I like pure trance if that's what you mean.
I haven't knocked down anyone, all I did was express my opinion on ASOT which is important to me,
you go on ahead and listen to 1st hour all you want now.

Just listening to La Guitarra (hehe for 5th time again today) remix, i still think this song is a bit too fast in rythm, so i'm just waiting for a remix betwen this and original. Oh and that part that is added, excellent

but your taste is not always someone else's taste..snd such, and hey congrats on knowing what you like..and don't but do u have whine about it?? im not trying to offend you or anyone on the forum, but ive read alot negative feelings towards the show and armin and the music and blah blah blah, on diffrent threads of this forum and all i have to say is wow! It's fine that we all express ourselfs and in diffrent manners bc this is a global thing but have some consideration, Especially on Armins own forum.
If you don't like something fair enough, but try to express it in a manner that doesn't sound maybee offensive to others or such.. I for one am not offended by anything you have said.
I embrace music for what it is and i don't like alot of stuff that is out t here but im not gonna writte an essay about it either, and no im not a music snob...we all like diff riffs and that's what's great diversity!!

it's cool hunnie bunnie, and yes ive read through some threads here that are just like WoW, you guys all have diff opinions and no one here seems to respect that, that's what im trying to get at especially when it comes to armin's choice in music ect, ect, you've been here alot longer than i have an i resect that so you do know more about the structure of it all thani do, but i cancatch up pretty quick
but i would think that after so many years and such things sometimes do have to change and you know that could a great thing if people allow it to be..
i wasn't into trance before i was a bigg house head still am but trance is now alot of what i listen to, when i 1st started listening to edm in like 96-97 it was all diff from what it is know and i really disliked it i was more of a house, drum&bass person( mainly bc my bf at the time was junglist) but none the less i embraced it all as i do know..i love trance now and i can't seem to go a day with out it
but the same fact remains here on this forum that everyone is so gung ho to be about their own opionons and matters that they over look why we're here, we should defently learn to resect eachother's opsions even if we don't agree, and especially when it comes to Armin what he deicdes to play or not..yes??

That however is open for debate I'm afraid, it's a complex issue and reason why everyone's on battle ground.
Armin wants to please everyone, he said it many times, but imho it's the wrong way to go about it because
he's also abandoned some of his practices, or in this case style of music he played in order for bigger number
of people to like in this case ASOT. This isn't to say he sold out, but that it isn't what put ASOT in place.
Anyway, it may seem like geek talk, but the fact is it's not the same.

kidding, i think he should really ultiamtly please his soul, he has many fans and that wont change mainly bc people come and people go and then there are those that follow him regardless simply bc they LOVE him and what he does.your not being geeky it's just that your passionate about your taste in music as well as everyone else here but im hoping that we try to keep the negtives at a certain point bc after that it make you all look like asses and im sure it hurts armin's feelings in one way or another
this was a fullout banging "A" grade episode right from the start!

I Agree! Armin you're a straight A student when it comes to your show this week and all the time. I'm not sure I have a furture favorite but I will give it wone final listen and see. Will let all of you know.

This is the best episode for me in years!!! As far as I'm concerned, Armin You can just transfer this onto a CD & call it ASOT 2008--and I'm buying!!!
Every tune just gorgeous!!! I loved all the summer tunes (maybe because I'm so starved for them!) Sirens of the Sea, Crash & Burn, that remix of Daydream!! Phoria, Walk the Edge!!! Whoooot! Neo Love, Breakfast's Take Me Back!!! Never Again!!
Then that gorgeous remix of that so heavenly tune Time To Rest!!! That's surely one of my top tunes this year!!!! Thanks Andy!!!!
The rest of the set was stellar too!!! I'll never get tired of this set!! Ohh---don't want to forget that fabulous remix of What You Need!!!! Yaay!!!

To me both the original mix of daydream and the origina mix of What you need sounds the best.

BAD Remix by Cosmic Gate of Oceanlab, They have gone so bad over the past 5 years I did not like the Cosmic gate remix of Veroccha - Carte Blanche (they have wrecked a classic by Ferry Corsten and Vincent De Moor). Nadia Ali (Vocals are Ok but terrible remix (I can't believe this was the Future Favourite of this week and The Tune of the Week of Episode 346 )
